The Šumava tourist area covers the area of ​​Prachaticka, Vimperska, Volarska and the South Bohemian part of Šumava. Already at the end of 2014, MAS Šumavsko, z.s. initiated the creation and foundation of the destination management office PRO Šumavsko, z. s., which manages the Šumavsko region. The main goal of the association was and is the effort to activate tourism in the South Bohemian part of Šumava and Pošumaví and the mutual connection of these two areas. Šumava is a new name that aims to connect the South Bohemian Šumava and its foothills. It covers an area of ​​1,007 km2 with more than 50 municipalities from the Šumava border. The unusual name arose on the basis of the fact that the Šumava region consists of two regions, namely the South Bohemian Šumava and the South Bohemian Pošumaví. Both of these areas are very specific, they differ diametrically in terms of their offer and at the same time complement each other, which means that the area as a whole really has a lot to offer from a tourist's point of view. The name itself may seem at first glance, actually listening, neck-breaking or even ear-pulling. However, the intention was to create a name that would be unknown and easy to remember thanks to its unconventionality. Each of the two regions of Šumava is specific in something different. South Bohemian Šumava is made up of an area full of natural beauty of the National Park and Šumava Protected Landscape Area, which offers activities for lovers of hiking, active movement and untouched nature. South Bohemian Pošumaví is mainly a traditional rural area with an agricultural tradition, production and offer of local products. It is also a place with interesting rural architecture, technical and historical monuments, a rich offer of traditional folk festivals and customs.
